"General Fusing Information" for information regarding scoring and cutting glass as well as basic fusing information. This project used COE 96 glass to construct two green bowls with decorative elements. The pictured bowl is just one suggestion for the arrangement of glass for the bowl. The instructions are for a bowl as pictured. You are encouraged to experiment and create your own design. The glass for this bowl is available in a kit.
1. Using a scoring and a breaking tool, cut the transparent glass into a 6” x 6” square. This transparent square will be the base piece for the bowl.
2. Using a proper scoring and breaking device, remove two 5” x 4” triangles of glass from the corners of the 6” x 6” lime green square. This will create a diagonal strip of lime green glass as indicated in the pattern.
3. Cut one 5” x 4” triangle of streaky green/blue glass and one of green transparent glass. Cut one 2” x 2.5” triangle of streaky green/blue glass and one 2” x 2.5” triangle of green transparent glass. (see diagram above)
4. Clean fingerprints and oil from all of the squares with alcohol or warm soapy water.
5. With a toothpick apply a small dot of Elmer’s glue to the lime green diagonal piece of glass and the larger streaky green/blue and green transparent triangles. Apply these pieces to the 6” x 6” clear base as indicated in the pattern.
6. Using a toothpick apply a small dot of Elmer’s glue and apply the small transparent green triangle ˝” from the outer edge of the larger streaky green/blue triangle and apply the small streaky green/blue triangle ˝” from the outer edge of the larger transparent green triangle.
7. Use a small amount of Elmer’s glue to adhere the white and black stringer’s using the picture for placement.
8. Allow the glue to dry and place the constructed glass
pieces onto a piece of thin shelf paper in a kiln. 10. Place the fused project into the center of an appropriate slump mold (6” x 6” square CPI GM02 works perfectly) that has been treated with glass separator according to the glass separator’s instructions.
11. Fire the glass on the slump mold at 500 degrees F per
hour to 1280 degrees F and hold for 15 minutes. Anneal the glass at 960 degrees
F for one hour and allow the kiln to return to kiln temperature naturally.
