The glass used to create this bowl is all coefficient (COE) 96 glass. The COE of glass indicates the hardness and expansion/shrinkage rate of glass when heated. It is important to use glass with the same COE numbers when fusing glass together.  COE 96 glass fuses nicely 1480 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you are brand new to glass, it would be a good idea to get  general information regarding scoring, cutting and basic firing information by following this link:  General Fusing Info

It is possible to create a wide variety of unique and beautiful hand crafted pieces with the glass used in this project. All of the glass in the project below is available in a kit.  Below you will find the instructions to create just one example of an exotic Boutique Bowl..

1.  Cut  black/white streaky glass into four 1.5” x 4.5” strips of glass. Cut red streaky glass into a 3” x 3” square. Cut a 6" x 6" square of clear glass

2. Arrange the black and white streaky strips around the edge of the 6” square of transparent glass. Arrange the red streaky square in the center of the black and white streaky border. Refer to the diagram included if necessary. Apply a tiny dot of Elmer’s glue under each piece of glass to keep the glass in place on the 6” square of transparent glass.

3. Allow the glue to dry and position the glass on shelf paper or suitable kiln washed surface in the center of the kiln. Fire the glass at 500 degrees per hour to 1480 degrees and hold until completely fused (approximately 15 minutes).  Hold the kiln at 960 degrees (anneal the glass) an hour. Allow the kiln to cool  to room temperature before opening.

4. Apply and set kiln wash or glass separator according to the manufacturers written instructions to Creative Paradise 6” square slump mold GM03.

5. Place the fused 6” x 6” square of glass centered directly on the slump mold.  Place the mold and the glass in the center of the kiln. Fire at 500 degrees per hour to 1280 and hold for 10 minutes or until slumped. Allow the kiln to cool as slowly as possible. Hold the glass at 960 degrees while cooling for an hour.  Allow the kiln to cool to room temperature before opening.
