At
Creative Paradise, Inc. we are excited and proud to be introducing a line of
earthenware slump, drape
and texture molds to create
fabulous glass flowers! We will be printing a book featuring these new molds and
16 to 20 flower patterns and instructions on how to use the molds to create
beautiful bouquets and show stopping garden accents. A sweet flower that
requires no pattern is featured in the tutorial below.
Using a flower slump to make a
sweet aster
Use compatible (same COE's) and fusible glass through
out this project.
Begin by drawing a 6" circle with a pencil onto a
piece of Thin Fire shelf paper. Find the center of the circle by folding
the paper twice. Place the paper onto a 8" unglazed ceramic tile or kiln
shelf Cut 8 small (1/2" t) green triangles and glue (Elmer's clear gel
glue)them in a ring around the center dot of the paper. Make sure that
there is a tiny gap in the center. This will form the sepal of the
flower and give the center of the flower more sturdiness then petals
alone.
Arrange the glass such that a hole will be formed in
the center of the flower upon fusing.
Cut 15 to 18 pieces of glass that range in size from
1/4" - 3/8" thick and 3" - 2.75" long. Arrange these pieces of glass in
a circle on top of the green triangles leaving a small circle gap in the
center. The arrangement should be unsymmetrical and stacked.
Cut 10 - 12 pieces of complimentary colored glass that
range in size from 1/4" - 3/8" thick and 2.75" - 2.5" long. Arrange
these pieces of glass on top of the first layer of petals leaving a
small circle gap in the center. To create a center for the flower, cut a
1.25" circle of complimentary colored glass . Place some contrasting
frit onto the center of the circle and put the circle on the thin fire
next to but not touching the flower. Place the glass and tile into a
kiln and fire at 350 degrees per hour to 1440 and anneal. (Approximately
cone 016 fired from beginning to end on high with a cone modulated kiln)
.
Apply Mold EZ or other suitable glass separator to GM 53
Large Hump w/Drop glass mold. If using a water based glass separator,
pre-fire the mold to 300 degrees to remove water vapor.
Remove the fused flower from the kiln and place it on
top of the GM 53 with the center of the flower over the center of the
mold and the with the green triangles facing up. Fire the project on the
mold at 275 degrees per hour to 1260 and anneal for an hour. (
Approximately cone 019 fired on low, med and high in hour intervals a
cone modulated kiln) .
After the kiln has cooled completely, remove the flower
and carefully remove any glass separator from the glass with water and a
soft cloth.
